Developing My Corner of the Blogosphere
I’ve been thinking about how I can develop my tiny little corner of the blogosphere into something that might actually draw an audience and possible make a few dollars on the side. Being a relative noob in the blogging scene, I’ve found there is no shortage of people offering advice on how to make money with your blog, blah, blah, blah. While that may be the direct goal of some people, that’s not what I really wanted to focus on. I need to learn more and fully explore the opportunity blogging presents and then make some decisions on how to proceed.
I’ve started by writing down this list of questions to help me focus on my goals. I’ll start with a basic list and explanation and over the next few weeks will expand on each item and share my findings as I do my research.
-
What do I want SkunkMonkey.com to be?
The concept for the site is pretty simple; personal opinion and observations on current events from the point of view of a slightly off-center monkey. -
Where does my content come from?
I can usually find something in the news everyday that gets me riled enough to get my blood pumping and the rants just flow from that. Sometimes an idea will just float into my head and bang around until I write about it. -
How often to post and how much?
I have the time available to me to be able to post at least daily. I’m going to short for at least 100 word posts daily and at least one 500 word or more post a week. -
Why would a visitor want to come to my site?
I’ll be honest here, I have no idea why, but I’ve been told by people that when I go off on a rant I can be quite funny so it’s hopefully the humor that will interest someone. -
Why would they want to return?
Hopefully I am actually funny or at least shocking enough that it makes someone smile, and coming back for smiles is a good reason to want people to come back.
Since there will be a lot of you following in my footsteps as a blogging noob, I’m posting my experiences in hopes that it will help someone else learn from my successes and failures. Over the next 5 weeks, I’ll be posting an expanded answer for each of the above 5 questions as well as any related research results.
Cheers!
Skunky
