What do I want SkunkMonkey.com to be?

Last week I brought up the topic of developing my blog into something interesting. Well this week I am going to cover the first of 5 questions I asked of myself. What do I want SkunkMonkey.com to be?

The whole idea behind the skunk monkey was that he was smarter than the average human that would visit him in his cage. This would lead him to making observations about the human world from his unique perspective. Skunky is always going to be the one that makes the fun happen around here, but Zookeeper Bob is the one that makes the magic happen. I’m hoping to develop my writing voice within these characters in a way that will lend a certain flavor to this site. Most posts will be with Skunky’s character but I’ll be using Zookeeper Bob to talk about the technical issues around here.

I still plan to post these types of observations but I also decided that I’m going to use the website to explore the world of blogs and the technology they use. This means that visitors might arrive to only find the site is unusable. So I’ve installed the Maintenance Mode plugin by Michael to be able to test a change without worrying about people getting an ugly mess of a page. I hope that I can develop this site into a place that provides entertainment as well as a learning experience for myself and those that I hope to also help develop blogs.

For a long term personal goal to match what I learn here, I’ve decided to try and build a network of bloggers by tapping the network of people I have met online over the years. I’ve often found that when asked, people will admit they want to write something, they don’t always know what or have the confidence to try. That’s where I am going to help these people, by showing them they already have within them something they are passionate enough to write about. Blogging isn’t about being the perfect novelist author writing prose that belongs printed in gold leaf, it’s about expressing your thoughts in a printed medium. Some blogs can even get away with speaking in a broken form of language to express a character or accent. I have the ability and know how to handle the technical aspects of blogging, I just don’t think that my personal blog is something that could become huge. On the flip side, I do recognize value in others writing and content, and this is what I want to help these people capitalize on and possibly profit from it.

So now I know what I want to do with this blog, where do I go next? Tune in next week for Part II!
