Over at Gizmodo, someone posted a photo and a composite animation of a large jetliner getting tagged by a huge bolt of lightning.

HOLY CRAP!

I always knew that planes are struck by lightning and it’s pretty safe for the aircraft and passengers, but after watching that video it makes you damn glad the engineers and designers made sure it wouldn’t take the plane out of the air. I’m flying down to St. Thomas in October and this does NOT make me feel better.
