I have a beautiful vista before me and it doesn’t include any software from the Microsoft Empire. I’ve decided that this latest operating system from MS just isn’t going to be worth it in the short term. Long term is another issue as MS will eventually have it’s monopoly based on Vista.

I’ve tried various Linux distributions in the past and have never been able to get one working. Now I consider myself fairly bright and competent when it comes to using computers, but Linux just seemed to be such a step backwards in user friendliness. Like most people, I want my computer to work without constantly tweaking the system. If you want to take an auto analogy: I don’t futz around with the engine in my car. I understand how it works. I can even install an “upgrade” if desired, but I don’t want to, I just want the car to run.

Recently I checked out the Ubuntu Linux distribution as I had heard it was fairly easy to get working. They even have a nifty CD image you can download, burn then boot into Ubuntu and give it a test drive. I was sure this was bunk and my system would just spit the CD back at me. Boy was I wrong. The system booted fine and without me having to do any configuration short of answering a dialog or two, I was online browsing websites and better yet, I could see and interact with all my Windows boxen on the LAN. I’ve never had such a painless experience installing an OS before, it was amazing.

I see a beautiful vista before me, yes I do, and is isn’t going to be owned my Microsoft.
